The Culture and Media Prosecutor’s Office issued the summons on October 2 and gave Hujjat Baddaghi five days to comply.

In defiance, Bodaghi posted a line of a poem by Hafez Shirazi on his Instagram account, which reads: “We have tested our luck in this city; we must pull ourselves out of this abyss.”

Iranian authorities continue to clamp down on any form of dissent a year after the death in police custody of 22-year old Mahsa Amini sparked months of anti-government protests.

Artists, writers, teachers, and university professors have been targeted for their support of the protests.
