Iranian IRGC Warship Crosses Equator For First Time

RFL/RE – An Iranian warship equipped with drones and missiles has crossed the equator into the Southern Hemisphere, Iran’s IRIB state radio reported on May 4. The report did not reveal the exact location of the Shahid Mahdavi, a converted container ship operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) that was unveiled more than a year ago. This is reportedly the first time that the IRGC has sent a warship on a long-range mission. Iranian forces in February test-launched medium-range missiles capable of reaching targets at a distance of around 1,700 kilometers for the first time.

The "Shahid Mahdawi" is operated by the naval forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
