Iran Executes Man on Drug-Related Charges

Iranwire – The Islamic Republic’s judiciary has executed another prisoner amid a significant rise in death penalties in the country.

According to Norway-based Iran Human Rights Organization, 42-year-old Behzad Bidrang, a father of two from Ajab Shir in East Azerbaijan province, was executed in Qazvin Central Prison on March 14

According to Norway-based Iran Human Rights Organization, 42-year-old Behzad Bidrang, a father of two from Ajab Shir in East Azerbaijan province, was executed in Qazvin Central Prison on March 14.

Bidrang was arrested for drug-related charges two years ago and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

There has been no official news coverage of these executions in government-affiliated media, including outlets connected to the Iranian judiciary. 

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization’s report, the Islamic Republic executed approximately 834 individuals last year. Out of these, 471 – constituting 56% – were put to death for drug-related crimes.
