A source close to Amir Velayati’s family said that he was taken to prison after being summoned to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office in Tehran, according to the HRANA human rights website.

Meanwhile, the Hengaw news agency reported the arrest of Matin Hasani in the city of Bukan, West Azerbaijan province.

On January 20, Hasani posted a video of him on Instagram visiting the grave of Yalda Aghafazli, a victim of the bloody state crackdown on the Woman, Life, Freedom protest movement.

The judicial branch of the Islamic Republic has not provided any information regarding the arrests of Velayati and Hasani, who were shot in the face by security forces during protests in 2022, resulting in the loss of sight in one eye.

Velayati and Hasani were among hundreds of Iranians who sustained severe eye injuries after being hit by pellets, tear gas canisters, paintball bullets or other projectiles used by security forces amid a bloody crackdown on the mainly peaceful demonstrations.
