Jailed Iranian Activist on Hunger Strike Moved to Hospital

Iranwire – Bahareh Hedayat, a jailed Iranian human rights activist who has been on a hunger strike for nearly two weeks, has been moved to hospital, her lawyer says.

“According to the information from the family, my client Bahareh Hedayat was transferred from [Tehran’s] Evin prison to the hospital on the 13th day of the hunger strike following the deterioration of her condition,” lawyer Zahra Minoui said on X, formerly Twitter.

On September 10, Minoui said that Hedayat required the assistance from a prison officer to attend a family meeting.

Hedayat is serving a four-year and eight-month sentence for participating in protest rallies following the downing of a Ukrainian airliner by Iranian forces over Tehran in January 2020.

The activist began her hunger strike on August 31 to protest the death of Javad Rouhi, a man who was detained during the recent nationwide protests and died under suspicious circumstances while in prison.

Rouhi’s family has urged Hedayat to end her protest action, but she has refused.
