Branch 28 of Tehran Revolutionary Court also banned Tawakoli from using social media and from traveling for a period of two years.

Tawakoli, who had been imprisoned in the past, said the latest case against him stemmed from his writings.

The Norway-based Iran Human Rights group has raised concerns about the practice by Iranian authorities of using “preventive detention” against civil activists such as Tawakoli.
