Iranian Sociologist Arrested Amid Crackdown on Clubhouse Users

Iranwire – Iranian security forces have taken social science researcher Fatemeh Hasani into custody in the latest in a series of arrests targeting users of the popular social networking platform Clubhouse.

The sociologist actively participated in various Clubhouse discussions in which she criticized government policies

Hasani was arrested at Mashhad airport on July 6 upon her return from a trip.

Her arrest comes amid an escalating crackdown on Iranian media activists and other individuals using the audio-based social network Clubhouse. 

Those arrested on unspecified charges since June 21 include prominent figures such as Alireza Abdi, Sayeh Saidal, Daniyal Amin and Sarvenaz Misaghian.

Agents from the Ministry of Intelligence arrested Hossein Razzaq, a founder of a popular Clubhouse room called Azadi Square, in Amol on December 5 last year. He was later released on bail.
