Iran Protests: Actress Alidoosti Posts Picture Of Herself Without Hijab

Iranwire – One of Iran’s most prominent actresses has posted a picture of herself on Instagram without a headscarf to express support for nationwide anti-government protests.

Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti has said she had “no intention of leaving” Iran.

Taraneh Alidoosti held a Kurdish-language slogan of the protest movement reading “Jin. Jiyan. Azadi.” (Woman. Life. Freedom.) in a picture she shared with her 7.8 million followers on Instagram.

Alidoosti is one of the best-known actors remaining in Iran who has publicly backed the ongoing protest movement.

At least five female Iranian actresses have posted pictures of themselves without the compulsory hijab since the start of the protest movement in mid-September.

The nationwide wave of protests was sparked by the September 16 death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of Tehran’s morality police, and has grown to become the biggest challenge to Iran’s regime since the 2009 protest movement.

The largely peaceful demonstrations triggered a heavy-handed crackdown in which security forces killed more than 300 people. Several thousand people were also brutally arrested.

Alidoosti has vowed to remain in her homeland at “any price,” saying she planned to stop working and instead support the families of those killed or arrested in the protest crackdown.

“I am the one who stays here and I have no intention of leaving,” said the 38-year-old actress.

Alidoosti is best-known for her role in “The Salesman,” which won an Academy Award in 2017.
