Iranwire – A female school student was killed on Thursday after security forces stormed a high school in northern Ardabil province, IranWire can report.
Following a gathering of schoolgirls at Shaheed High School in Ardabil, at which the students were protesting against the murder of Mahsa Amini, mandatory hijab and the government, security attacked the school, beat students and arrested 10 girls. Media reports said that about a dozen injured students were transferred to a hospital – where one of them died of internal bleeding.
More than two dozen children have so far been killed in the latest protests.
The city’s Teachers’ Council confirmed the news and said dozens of security forces entered the school after the students started chanting “Death to the Dictator”. Ardabil provincial officials, however, denied the reports.
Girls across the country have joined nationwide protests in recent weeks, leading to clashes with teachers and ultimately security forces, who have arrested some they suspect of having taken part in demonstrations.
Schoolgirls are the latest – and most surprising – group to challenge the political establishment in Tehran. Security and intelligence agencies are now considering how to suppress crowds of children calling for their freedom as they join the biggest demonstrations in Iran since the 2019 cost of living uprisings which were violently put down with at least 1,500 people killed.
