At least 14 prisoners executed in Iran in four days

Iran-HRM – The Iranian Judiciary executed at least 14 prisoners from March 12 to 16, 2022.

The executions of at least 14 prisoners took place in the prisons of Gohardasht (Karaj), Shiraz, Isfahan, Urmia, Bushehr, Zahedan, and Khash.

Two brothers, Behnam Gholam-Ali and Abbas Khargir, and another inmate by the name of Mohsen Jahangiri were among the 14 prisoners executed in recent days. The three prisoners were hanged in Gohardasht Prison (aka Rajaishahr) in Karaj, on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

Mohsen Jahangiri had been imprisoned for 20 years before being executed.

Peyman Babakhani and Mir-Ali Hosseini were executed in the Central Prison of Urmia on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

Urmia is the capital of the West Azerbaijan Province, in northwestern Iran. The Central Prison of Urmia is one of the most notorious prisons in Iran, where many executions are carried out.

Mohammad Bozorgzadeh, 22, from Yasuj, was executed in the Prison of Bushehr (southern Iran) on March 15. Yasuj is the capital of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in southwestern Iran.

Four prisoners were hanged in Adelabad Prison of Shiraz (southern Iran) on Sunday, March 13, 2022. Hossein Mehrabani, 37 from Jahrom, and Jamshid Fadaii were among the four prisoners executed in Shiraz.

The Prison of Zahedan was also the scene of execution of a Baluch prisoner on March 13. Hafizollah Rakhshani, 30 from Zahedan, was hanged after six years lingering on the death row.

Another Baluch prisoner, Alam Yarahmadzehi, 48, was hanged in the Prison of Khash on March 12. Khash is the capital of Khash County in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran.

Other reports indicate that more prisoners have been taken to solitary confinement to be executed on the eve of the Iranian New Year.

More than 365 prisoners have been executed in 2021 in Iran, raising concern over the abysmal human rights condition which has worsened since Ebrahim Raisi became the regime’s president.

This number does not include those prisoners who are secretly executed, and it is not possible to ascertain their names and places of execution.

The actual number of executions in 2021 in Iran is much higher as the regime carries out most executions out of the public eye.

No witnesses are present at the time of execution but those who carry them out.

Iran HRM once again calls on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Human Rights Council and other institutions defending human rights to take urgent action to save the lives of Iranian prisoners on death row. The Iranian regime’s dossier of human rights violations must be referred to the UN Security Council. The leaders and officials of the clerical regime in Iran must face justice for four decades of committing crimes against humanity.
