Political prisoner Amir Hossein Moradi critically ill in the Greater Tehran Penitentiary

Iran-HRM – Political prisoner Amir Hossein Moradi is critically ill, said a fellow inmate who is on temporary leave until August 22.

Hossein Qashqaii, a social media activist, who is serving two years in the Greater Tehran Penitentiary for his activities on social media, has been on temporary leave from prison. He has made revelations about prison conditions in the Greater Tehran Penitentiary despite the risks he would encounter upon return to jail.

His remarks about political prisoner Amir Hossein Moradi was made in his tweet posts on August 16.

Amir Hossein Moradi was arrested in Tehran during the nationwide protests in November 2019. He is critically ill and cannot tolerate prison conditions, but the prison authorities refrain from releasing him despite his conditions. They even do not give him his medications. Mr. Moradi could not even keep water down, day and night, until he was transferred to hospital.

Mr. Moradi suffered badly during interrogations by the Intelligence Ministry agents. Upon return, he had lost weight and could not stand on his own. He also suffered from severe nausea and fever. Mr. Qashqaii said Amir Hossein had sores all over his body and his skin condition had deteriorated. The interrogators had not allowed him to take a shower for two weeks in the unsanitary prison conditions.

Hossein Qashqaii cited Amir Hossein’s mother as saying that her son’s condition was worse than when he was in the hospital. “What he must be going through?” Qashqaii wrote in his tweet.

Political prisoner Amir Hossein Moradi was initially sentenced to death for taking part in the November 2019 protests in Tehran. The Supreme Court did not uphold the death sentence. Mr. Moradi has reportedly received 25 years in prison. His father, Mohammad Moradi, committed a fatal suicide in September 2020.
