Iranian Civil Activist, Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb on 38th Day of Hunger Strike

Iran Human Rights (IHR) – Civil activist, Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb, currently being held at Fashafuyeh Prison in Tehran, has entered the 38th day of his hunger strike and is in a worrying physical condition.

According to Iran Human Rights, there is a growing concern for Zaratosht Ahmadi-Ragheb’s physical health as he continues his hunger strike in protest to his detention.

On 30 May, he wrote on his social media that he had been sent a court notice summoning him to Evin Court for “photographing prohibited areas.” Zartosht surrendered himself at Branch Four of the Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Shahriar on 15 June 2020, where he was arrested. He went on hunger strike from the first day of his detention.

Zartosht was previously arrested by security agents at his home on 27 August 2019 and transferred to Ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence in Evin Prison. Upon finishing his interrogation, he was transferred to a public ward of Evin Prison at the beginning of October 2019. He was charged with “propaganda against the system, insulting the leadership and insulting the heads of the three branches of the state. After spending five months in detention, Zartosht was finally released on bail on January 13, 2020.

Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb is one of the 14 activists who signed an open letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei demanding his resignation. He was a firefighter at the Tehran Fire Department for 17 years but was fired from his job for his civil activism.
