Man Hanged in Northeast Iran

Iran Human Rights (IHR) – Iranian media have reported execution of a prisoner in the northeastern city of Gonbad Kavus without mentioning his name.

According to Iranian semi-official Fars News Agency, a man was hanged at a prison in Gonbad Kavus city, Golestan province, on May 5, 2020. He was sentenced to death for “rape and murder of a four-year-old child” five years ago.

The executions are carried out while the Islamic Republic’s authorities had usually been reluctant to execute people in the Muslims’ fasting month, Ramadan, during the past years. However, several people have been executed in the first days of Ramadan 2020.
