PayvandNews – TAQ KASRA, a landmark in the history of architecture, is a 6th-century Persian monument. It was built in the capital of Persian Empire during the Sasanian dynasty. The palace was gradually declined after the Arab invasion in the 7th century and now it is located close to Iraqi capital Baghdad, less than 200 km far from the Persian territory.

Following a huge flood in late 19th-century, the left facade of Taq Kasra was collapsed. In 1990s during the Persian Gulf Wars, shock waves from bombing triggered cracks at the ruins; and since a few years ago the monument is in real danger, due to the ISIS’s hostility toward historical sites in Iraq.

The documentary maker Pejman Akbarzadeh, based in Holland, since last year has devoted himself to make the first-ever film about TAQ KASRA. During two dangerous trips to Iraq, he has filmed the arch and also has interviewed prolific scholars in Asia, Europe and North America on the history and architecture of Taq Kasra.
The 45-minute documentary film is a big step to reintroduce one of the symbolic sites of ancient Persia/Iran and encourage the authorities to register that as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
