Iranian Mother of Two Killed by Husband in Public

Iranwire – Nermin Pirhaman, a mother of two from Sanandaj in Kurdistan Province, was killed by her husband on Sunday.

Nermin Pirhaman, a mother of two from Sanandaj in Kurdistan Province, was killed by her husband on Sunday

The killing, described as an “honor killing” by the perpetrator, has once again highlighted the ongoing issue of violence against women in Iran.

According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Pirhaman was fatally stabbed by her husband, Heshmat Kalaei, outside a divorce office in Sanandaj.

The attack occurred between Madar Square and Sirous Street, where Pirhaman was reportedly stabbed 20 times in a public area.

Sources close to the case revealed that Pirhaman had left her husband’s home several months before the incident.

On the day of the murder, Kalaei reportedly lured her to the location under the pretense of agreeing to a divorce.

Instead, he attacked her in broad daylight.

Iranian state media have reported the arrest of Kalaei. However, as is often the case in femicide incidents, the motive was described merely as “family disputes,” a characterization that many activists argue downplays the severity and systemic nature of violence against women.

This death underscores the ongoing challenges faced by women seeking divorce or attempting to leave abusive relationships in Iran.
