Pension Protest Leads to Arrest of Retired Teacher Mustafa Robati

He was arrested after participating in a protest rally by pensioners outside the Ministry of Education building in Tehran, according to the HRANA human rights website.

HRANA reported that Robati was targeted by special police forces as he was attempting to leave the protest site and return home by private car.

He was physically assaulted during the arrest.

The pensioners had gathered in front of the ministry to demand payment of overdue retirement benefits and allowances.

Robati had read out a statement on behalf of the protesters before the violent crackdown occurred.

This is not the first time Iranian authorities have gone after Robati and his fellow activists from the North Khorasan Cultural Association.

Earlier, he and six other members were collectively sentenced to 41 years in prison and over 200 lashes on various charges.
