Militants launched two separate attacks on military installations in southeastern Iran on Thursday, killing at least five Iranian security officers and wounding another ten

The attacks targeted the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the cities of Rask and Chabahar, both located in Sistan and Baluchistan province, according to state media reports.

The reports added that at least 16 militants were killed in clashes with security forces.

Images coming out of the region also show the presence of drones hovering over the conflict zone.

The perpetrators are believed to be from Jaish al-Adl, an extremist Sunni militant group operating in both southeastern Iran and the western Pakistani province of Baluchistan.

Jaish al-Adl is recognized as a terrorist group by both Iranian authorities and several Western governments, including the United States.

The attack follows tensions that flared in January when Iran launched missile strikes against the Jaish al-Adl bases in Pakistan. It prompted a retaliatory military action by Pakistan, targeting suspected separatists in Iran.
