Biden, Guterres, and US Officials Extend Nowruz Greetings

Iranwire – As the world welcomed the arrival of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, several American and international officials extended greetings to those who celebrate the thousand-years-old festivities.

President Joe Biden offered his well wishes, saying, “Today, Jill and I send our best wishes to the millions of people around the world celebrating Nowruz – a time of reflection, renewal, and rebirth.”

President Biden’s message extended congratulations to the millions celebrating Nowruz worldwide.

“We hear it in the sound of children banging pots, and in the laughs of families who’ve come together around the Haft-Sin table. And we feel it as communities gather to make this celebration such a joyous part of American culture – one that reflects the soul of who we are as a nation, and reminds us that hope lies ahead,” he added in a statement.

Vice President Kamala Harris also joined in the stream of well wishes, delivering a video message extending Nowruz wishes to everyone celebrating.

The US Secretary of State also joined and wrote in a post, “Happy Nowruz to all celebrating the arrival of spring and new beginnings. May we cherish the bonds of family and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.”

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said, “Nowruz is a celebration of new beginnings – the start of a new year, the arrival of spring, and the rebirth of nature. It brings together millions of people across generations and nations.”

“In these times of great challenge, Nowruz promotes dialogue, good neighborliness and reconciliation. It reinforces the goals and values of the United Nations – peace, human rights and dignity. So let us all be guided by the Nowruz spirit,” he added.
