Kurdish Political Prisoner in Iran Faces Fresh Accusation

Iranwire – Kurdish political prisoner Saada Khadirzadeh, who was previously cleared of murder charges by the Supreme Court of Iran, now faces a new accusation in a Revolutionary Court.

She is now accused of “assisting in the purchase of weapons.”

Khadirzadeh could have been released on parole or furlough since she had already completed more than two years of her initial sentence.

However, with this new accusation, Iranian security institutions appear intent on keeping her imprisoned.

In February, the Supreme Court overturned Khadirzadeh’s ten-year sentence for “helping in murder.”

She still faces separate sentences for “helping her husband to escape” and having “membership” of a Kurdish opposition party, amounting to five years in prison.

Reports say the new complaint, filed by the family of the plaintiff with reported ties to the Intelligence Department, aims to keep Khadirzadeh and her daughter behind bars.

The first hearing of the new case, held in February, was reportedly marred by disrespect and threats from the plaintiffs. They even tried to beat Khedirzadeh’s baby daughter.

Despite her lawyer protesting, the judge justified the new case, claiming that even if the Supreme Court “broke the verdict,” Khadirzadeh faces a new accusation.

Her fate remains uncertain as the Kurdish political prisoner awaits the verdict in the new case. She has also been denied any time outside prison with her daughter.
