The incident, reported by Hamshahri Online on February 18, occurred in Tehran two days before the government ceremony marking the anniversary of the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

According to the report, the man was killed during an altercation with a cardriver who claimed the public sweeper intended to insult the flags.

Hamshahri Online deleted its report hours after its publication, without providing any explanation.

The man’s colleagues said that he was cleaning Niyayesh Park in Tehran when a Peugeot driver struck him and threw him down a bridge, resulting in his death.

“We tried to stop the driver from escaping, but he threatened us and fled the scene,” one colleague stated.

Social media users have rallied behind a hashtag demanding justice and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
