Tehran Prisoners Launch Hunger Strike in Protest Against Mass Executions

Iranwire – Several political prisoners incarcerated in Ward 6 of Tehran’s Evin prison have gone on hunger strike to protest the recent spate of executions in Iran.

While launching their indefinite protest on January 31, the detainees condemned the increased use of the death penalty by the Iranian authorities as “inhuman,” an informed source told IranWire.

Ward 6 of Evin prison houses individuals detained during the 2022-23 nationwide protests and other political activists.

Over the past days, a growing number of political prisoners and other convicts on death row have been executed across Iran.

A group of political prisoners in Karaj’s Ghezelhesar prison, near Tehran, issued a statement, announcing that they plan to go on hunger strike every Tuesday to protest the mass executions.

Meanwhile, activists have raised alarm over the imminent execution of at least eight political prisoners.
