Government Killing of Anahita Amirpour by Plainclothes Officers’ Gunfire

Iran-HRM – On the evening of Friday, January 19, 2024, a 20-year-old woman named Anahita Amirpour was killed in the Nezamabad area of Borujerd as a result of direct gunfire by plainclothes officers of the Borujerd Intelligence Department.

According to reports received by Iran Human Rights Monitor (IranHRM), Anahita Amirpour, a first-semester student of Physical Education at the Islamic Azad University in Borujerd, along with Mohammad Jalayi Far, who is also a student of Physical Education, were driving in a Peugeot 206 that was ambushed by plainclothes officers on Friday night, January 19.

Anahita Amirpour lost her life instantly, while Mohammad Jalayi Far was severely injured and is currently being treated and hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Chamran Hospital.

A source close to IranHRM has stated that plainclothes security forces initially attacked the vehicle carrying these two students. They attempted to stop the car, but since the plainclothes officers did not have police uniforms, the driver of the vehicle believed that these individuals intended to steal the car. Therefore, they did not stop and intended to quickly leave the area, but they came under fire from the security forces.

On Sunday, security services summoned and severely threatened two personnel from Chamran Hospital. They also put pressure on the family and friends of Anahita Amirpour. Additionally, they attempted to link this incident to the explosions in Kerman to turn this deliberate government killing into a security case through scenario planning. Over the past two days, the families of these two students have been under pressure not to provide any information about this matter and to keep the crimes of the security officers silent in the news.
