Accusation of “Bagh-y” against three female political prisoners in Evin prison

Iran-HRM – Forough Taghipour and Marzieh Farsi, and Nassim Gholami Fard are at risk of execution

Forough Taghipour and Marzieh Farsi, and Nassim Gholami Fard , three female political prisoners held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, have been accused of collaborating with opposition groups against the regime( Bagh-y) on Monday December 11 ,2023,

These three female political prisoners have spent nearly five months in detention. Three days ago, on the December 9 ,2023, they were informed of the charges against them at Evin Courthouse. With these charges, their lives are at risk, and based on such accusations, they could face the death penalty or other sentences may be issued, including amputation of the right hand and left foot.

According to reports received by Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran Rm), Frough Taghipour, 29 years old, and Marzieh Farsi, 58 years old, have a history of previous arrests and imprisonment on charges of supporting and having connections with the Mujahedin. Their latest arrest dates back to five months ago when they were detained on August 21 ,2023.

Nassim Gholami Fard is the third female political prisoner who has been convicted along with two other political prisoners. She was arrested in Tir month of July 2023 in relation to one of the opposition groups against the regime. Prior to this, Nassim Gholami Fard went on a hunger strike in protest of her situation in Evin Prison, which she ended after two weeks with the promise of prison authorities to address her grievances.

Forough Taghipour is a citizen of Tehran, born in 1994, and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She is the daughter of Rahim Taghipour, who was one of the prisoners in the 1980s. On February 24 ,2020, she was arrested along with her mother and sentenced to five years in prison. She was imprisoned in the women’s ward of Evin Prison until Bahman month of February 2023 when she was released. However, she was arrested again on August 21, 2023.

Marzieh Farsi, born in 1965, is married and has two children. Ms. Farsi was arrested in February 2020 on charges of collaborating with the Mujahedin. At that time, she was also diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing cancer treatment when she was summoned to prison. After spending nearly 4 years in prison, she was released from the women’s ward of Evin Prison in February 2023. Marzieh Farsi is considered a member of the families of the victims of the 1980s and her brother, Hassan Farsi, was executed in the summer of 1988.
