Two Kurdish Sunni Clerics Arrested in Iran

Iranwire – Iranian security forces have arrested two Kurdish Sunni clerics in the northwestern district of Bukan, as the country’s Shia rulers continue their crackdown on Sunni clerics in Iran. 

The arrests of Hassan Amini, the Friday prayer leader of the village of Malaler, and Mohiuddin Mohammadzadeh, the Friday prayer leader of Nobar village, were reported by the Kurdpa News Agency on December 2

According to Kurdpa, the arrests were carried out without a court order and the two clerics were taken to an unknown location. 

Bukan district is located in West Azerbaijan province.

Since the eruption of nationwide protests last year, the government has intensified its repression of Sunni clerics in the western Kurdish regions and the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, home to the country’s Sunni Baluch minority. 

Numerous clerics have been imprisoned on political grounds.
