Unnamed Man Executed for Murder in Mashhad

Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) – State media have reported the execution of an unidentified man for murder in Mashhad Central Prison.

According to Etemad Online, a man was executed in Mashhad Central Prison (Vakil Abad) on 1 October. His identity has only been reported as 35-year-old Mohammad Taghi (surname unknown).

He was accused of murdering a man along with others on 7 June 2020 and sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) for murder.

Those charged with the umbrella term of “intentional murder” are sentenced to qisas (retribution-in-kind) regardless of intent or circumstances due to a lack of grading in law. Once a defendant has been convicted, the victim’s family are required to choose between death as retribution, diya (blood money) or forgiveness.
