Iranwire – Iranian authorities have arrested two brothers and the daughter of prominent political prisoner Fatemeh Sepehri, who was hospitalized this week for a serious heart condition.
Hossein and Mohammad Hossein Sepehri were arrested on September 27, the same day their sister was transferred from Vakil Abad prison to Qaim Hospital in the northeastern city of Mashhad, their brother Ali said on X on September 29.
He said security forces later detained Sepehri’s daughter, Hamideh Mahdavi Moein.
Ali Sepehri said that his sister “urgently requires heart surgery,” but she will only consent to the operation when their relatives are released.
The activist was arrested in Mashhad on September 12, 2022, and was sentenced in February this year to a total of 18 years in prison on charges including “propaganda against the regime,” “cooperating with hostile countries” and “insulting” Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his predecessor, Ruhollah Khomeini.
She is one of the 14 signatories of a 2019 statement calling for Khamenei’s resignation, the abolition of the Islamic Republic and the establishment of a secular government.
