Housewife Denied Needed Medicine at Isfahan Prison

Iranwire – Masoumeh Yavari, 45-year-old housewife and mother of two, has been in custody since September 5, when 24 plainclothes officers stormed her home to arrest her.

Masoumeh Yavari, 45-year-old housewife and mother of two, has been in custody since September 5, when 24 plainclothes officers stormed her home to arrest her

The officers accused Yavari of “supporting hostile organizations,” “propaganda” and “destroying and setting fire to public property” – charges her family denies.

Yavari’s health is gravely concerning, and the interrogators and officials at Isfahan’s Dolat Abad prison, where she is being held, are hindering access to medications in an attempt to force her into making confessions.

“Her family was truly taken aback,” a source told IranWire. “This woman is a housewife, and she underwent spinal disc surgery two years ago. Her physical condition is so delicate that she cannot even sit for a long time.”

Yavari was first arrested during protests that followed the disputed 2009 presidential election. Her children were minors at the time.

During her incarceration, “electric baton strikes to her neck inflicted by prison guards” caused a lumbar disc injury.

Following her latest arrest, Yavari’s family remained unaware of her whereabouts for three days.

On the third day, she made a call from Dowlat Abad prison saying she had been kept in solitary confinement and had not met with her interrogators.

She also informed her family that her painkillers had run out.

When her family attempted to deliver her medicines, the Intelligence Protection unit refused to accept them.
