US Is Pushing Iran to Stop Selling Drones to Russia – Report

Iranwire – The United States is reportedly pressing Iran to stop selling armed drones to Russia, as well as spare parts for the unmanned aerial vehicle, as part of talks on an unwritten understanding between Washington and Tehran to de-escalate tensions.

The Financial Times disclosed the ongoing discussions on August 16, citing an Iranian official and another person familiar with the talks.

US and Iranian authorities did not officially comment on the report.

The UK newspaper reported that the discussions have taken place alongside the negotiations on a prisoner exchange deal.

Last week, four US citizens were transferred from Tehran’s Evin prison to house arrest while a fifth was already under home confinement.

The European Union, the United States and other countries have issued several rounds of sanctions against the Islamic Republic in recent months over its crackdown on anti-government protests and its supply of drones to Russia for its war effort in Ukraine.
