Twin Sisters Arrested in Iran’s Kurdistan; Whereabouts Unknown

Iranwire – Two Kurdish twin sisters aged 21 were arrested in the western city of Sanandaj on August 13, according to a rights group based in France. 

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network said that Zaryan and Zilan Molaei were detained during a raid by government forces on the family’s house and taken to an undisclosed location

The two students were arrested without a court order, raising concerns about due process.

There was no information about the accusations they face. 

Zilan is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architecture, while her sister Zaryan is enrolled in an associate’s degree program in architecture in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan province. 

Their arrests come amid escalating pressure on Kurdish activist groups and individuals in the region, including journalists, lawyers and students, in the wake of anti-establishment protests that have swept across Iran in recent months.
