Baha’is Arrested on Spurious Charges of Cultural “Infiltration”

Iranwire – In a joint statement, the IRGC Intelligence Organization and the General Intelligence Directorate of northern Gilan province have announced the arrest of several Baha’i citizens.

The arrested members of the Baha’i religious minority are facing serious accusations of “infiltrating various cultural, social, and educational sectors, with a special focus on music schools for children and teenagers.”

Furthermore, they have been allegedly involved in “theater directing and acting and exerting influence over local state television.”

According to the statement, the detained Baha’is are said “to have pursued their objectives using multiple media platforms including social media and satellite channels.”

No evidence has been presented by the authorities to substantiate the accusations.

But the authorities have accused the Baha’is of inciting Iranian citizens to participate in protests during the autumn of 2022 and to engage in anti-hijab campaigns.

The joint statement did not revealed the identities of the detainees

IranWire has previously reported on the arrest of two Baha’i citizens in Rasht, the provincial capital of Gilan, in recent days.

Additionally, there were announcements regarding the sentencing of a Baha’i couple and another Baha’i citizen in Rasht to prison in recent weeks.
