Jailed Political Activist Haeri Sentenced to Prison Again

Iranwire – An Iranian court has sentenced political activist Ahmedreza Haeri to three months and one day in prison on charges of “spreading lies,” local media reported.

Branch 1040 of the Criminal Court in Tehran handed down the sentence in absentia on June 21, as Haeri was serving a previous conviction in Tehran’s Evin prison

Branch 1040 of the Criminal Court in Tehran handed down the sentence in absentia on June 21, as Haeri was serving a previous conviction in Tehran’s Evin prison.

The plaintiff in the latest case, the Tehran Province Prisons Organization, accused Haeri of disseminating “false” information regarding the deaths of inmates in Greater Tehran Prison.

The court documents include Haeri’s writings about prisoners such as Sasan Nik Nafs and Amir Hossein Hatami who died in the prison in 2021.

In September last year, Haeri was handed a sentence of three years and eight months for “assembly and collusion with the intention of committing a crime against national security,” along with an additional eight months for “propaganda” against the Islamic Republic.

In May this year, Haeri was ordered to return to prison after being granted temporary release on bail.
