Friday Prayers In Iran’s Flashpoint City Of Zahedan

Iranwire – Each week, hundreds of people are taking to the streets of the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan after Friday prayers, defying a bloody repression by the Islamic Republic on five months of anti-government protests. This is a selection of pictures taken on a Friday inside and outside the compound of Zahedan’s Grand Makki Mosque, the largest Sunni mosque in the country. Its Friday prayer leader, Molavi Abdolhamid, has used his sermons to sharply criticize the fierce response of the country’s Shia clerical rulers to the protest movement.
