Iranwire – Iranian authorities have arrested three “citizen journalists” accused of receiving “significant amounts of money” from two foreign organizations, local media reported.
Tasnim, a news agency affiliated with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, said the trio were working with Tavaana, a U.S.-based organization that provides free online training to Iranians, and Iran International, a London-based, Saudi-funded news television channel.
The three detained individuals used the money to provide news to “foreign parties,” it added, without providing further details.
The report comes amid a crackdown on media workers in Iran following weeks of nationwide unrest triggered by the September 16 death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in the custody of Tehran’s morality police.
Security services have unleashed a fierce crackdown on the mainly peaceful protests in which more than 270 people have been killed.
Several thousand people have been arrested, including at least 46 journalists, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
