German Motorcyclist Arrested in Iran Tourist Hotspot, Berlin Confirms

Iranwire – A fourth German citizen was arrested in Iran around 40 days ago, the country’s foreign ministry belatedly confirmed on Friday.

The 66-year-old man is understood to be a tourist who was accused of “taking photos of prohibited areas”. According to Radio Farda, he had been making his way from city to city by motorcycle.

The man is said to have spent about half his detention so far in solitary confinement. He is now on a general ward within the Isfahan Central Prison complex.

The German government was made aware of the man’s arrest in Aran o-Bidgol, a tourist hotspot near the desert, after he stopped responding to his family on social media. The foreign ministry confirmed it had consular access to him.

No official channel in Iran has yet confirmed the arrest. Other German citizens held in Iranian prisons include Jamshid SharmahdNahid Taghavi and an as-yet unnamed German national arrested in February last year.
