Horrifying rise in executions in Iran; 11 hanged in just one day

Iran-HRM – The Iranian regime executed 11 prisoners on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

The 11 prisoners whose death penalties were carried out included one prisoner in Shiraz, seven Baluch prisoners in the prisons of Zabol and Zahedan, and three prisoners in Qom.

The Iranian regime has stepped up handing down death penalties and carrying them out since Ebrahim Raisi took office as the regime’s president.

On July 20 and 21 (Wednesday and Thursday), three prisoners including a woman were hanged in the Prison of Yazd, two prisoners in Birjand, two prisoners in Isfahan, and one prisoner in Qom. The victims added up to eight on these two days.

From June 21 to July 20, the Tehran regime executed a total of 54 prisoners, including 8 Kurds and 8 Baluch prisoners.

The number of executions registered in the first quarter of the current Iranian year thus adds up to at least 226.

The rate of executions in Iran is rising deliriously.

255 were executed in 2020.

366 were executed in 2021.

And 266 prisoners (more than the entire year 2020) have been executed in the first half of 2022 until the end of June.

Iran Human Rights Monitor draws the attention of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the special rapporteur on human rights in Iran, and all the human rights organizations to take immediate action to stop the executions in Iran.
