radiozamaneh – A recent HRANA report claims a Dutch citizen is imprisoned in Iran.
According to HRANA, the Iranian Human Rights Activists news agency, “Kees Lunenburg” has reportedly been sentenced to five years in prison for the alleged charge of “collusion against national security.” In an email to the Dutch foreign ministry, Zamaneh asked for confirmation of any Dutch nationals currently being held under Iranian custody.
The Dutch foreign ministry refused to comment on this matter.
HRANA states that Lunenburg is serving a five-year sentence in Ward 8 of Evin Prison.
Iran holds several European citizens in its prisons.
The most recent foreign nationals in Iranian prison include Maciej Walczak, a Polish professor at Copernicus University, sentenced to three years, and Olivier Vandecasteele, a Belgian aid worker.
Belgium’s Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne has confirmed that Iran has been holding a Belgian man for the past four months under “espionage” charges.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland has also confirmed the arrest of Mr. Maciej Walczak.
Foreign and dual nationals are systematically detained in Iran and often used for bargaining. They are accused of crimes that are difficult to verify due to the non-transparency of the judicial process in Iran.
