Men are not allowed to enter “hundreds of parks in Tehran”

Iran-HRM – A member of the Tehran City Council confirmed the gender segregation in Tehran’s parks, saying that the Tehran municipality was providing some parks to mothers and children and that it intended to “turn these parks into family parks.”

“More than 200 parks will be exclusively for women, mothers, and children,” Mohammad Agha Miri told the state-run Didban website on Saturday, April 9.

He said he believed the presence of men in the parks was “not in the best interests of women”.

Agha Miri also claimed that ” the reason for implementing such a plan was the numerous demands of the people of Tehran, and we only implemented the demands of the people.” He did not provide evidence for his claim or the poll.

He confirmed that this project is currently being implemented in most parks and will be implemented in other parks in the coming days.

Aghamiri said that the move was permanent, saying that “a number of these parks will remain women’s, mothers’ and children’s parks forever” because men are at work during the day but women have more free time and can visit these parks with their children.»

Gender segregation is among the official policies of the clerical regime in Iran and it has already segregated all schools, university classes and universities, government offices, hospitals, parks, and public transport vehicles including buses and trains. In recent months, it has been stressing on segregation of kindergartens.
