Ali Khamenei’s Niece Arrested

Iranwire – Farideh Moradkhani, a human rights activist and niece of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has been detained in the Iranian capital. According to Iranian human rights advocates, she was arrested on her way home on Thursday, January 13 by Tehran Ministry of Intelligence agents.

HRANA reports that officers also raided Moradkhani’s home and confiscated some of her personal belongings. The next day, Moradkhani contacted her family and reported that she had been transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

The official reason for the arrest and the charges against Moradkhani have yet to be given. But last October she had joined at an online conference to mark Farah Pahlavi’s birthday, reading out a poem calling for the former Queen of Iran to return.  “You will come back and bring light, love and affection,” she said.
