According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, 22-year-old Ahvaz native, Ali Chebishat was arrested on 26 July 2020 and has been held in the custody of intelligence services in Ahvaz Central Prison.

Speaking to IHR, an informed source said: “Ali Chebishat was arrested by IRGC Intelligence forces and spent three months under torture and interrogations in solitary confinement. His family have been going to the Revolutionary Court for more than a year but have been told by the court that the case is being handled by the Ministry of Intelligence and will be decided by them. They’re extremely worried that he’s being held in uncertain circumstances.”

“Ali is accused of raising an Al-Ahvaz flag but he says he had nothing to do with the flag and he did not do it,” the source added.

Being held in solitary confinement for prolonged periods and without any legal proceedings where the prisoner is in constant limbo, are amongst the methods used by security agencies to pressurise political prisoners in Iran.
