33 executions carried out in Iran in the span of one month

Iran-HRM – 33 executions carried out in Iran in the span of one month

The clerical regime’s human rights dossier must be referred to the UN Security Council

Two executions carried out in the prisons of Sanandaj and Zahedan on January 18 and 19, brought to 33 the number of prisoners executed in Iran in just one month from December 20 to January 19.

This number does not include those prisoners who are secretly executed and it is not possible to ascertain their names and places of execution. These executions were carried out in the prisons of Ahvaz, Qom, Zahedan, Ardabil, Sanandaj, Karaj, Rasht, Mashhad, Meshkinshahr, Zabol, Tabriz, Yazd and Qazvin

Those executed included three Baluchi political prisoners who were hanged in the Prison of Zahedan on January 3, 2021, and three Sunni prisoners who were hanged on the fabricated charge of armed insurgency in Vakilabad Prison of Mashhad on December 26, 2020. A female prisoner was executed in Sanandaj and Mohammad Hassan Rezaii who was executed after 13 years in the Prison of Rasht. He was only 16 at the time of arrest and detention.

The clerical regime seeks to prevent escalation of popular protests by these executions, extensive arbitrary arrests, and other repressive measures.

Iran HRM once again calls on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Human Rights Council and other institutions defending human rights to take urgent action to save the lives of Iranian prisoners on death row. The Iranian regime’s dossier of human rights violations must be referred to the UN Security Council. The leaders and officials of the clerical regime in Iran must face justice for four decades of committing crimes against humanity.
