Two Sunni Baluch Clerics Transferred for Execution in Zahedan

Iran Human Rights warns of the imminent execution of the two Baluch Sunni clerics and calls on the international community to act to stop their executions.
IHR director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: “Molavi Amanollah Baluchi and Hafez Abdolrahim Kouhi were denied their due process and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court which does not have jurisdiction over their cases according to the Islamic Republic’s own laws. Other than the death penalty being an inherently cruel and inhumane punishment, their scheduled executions are unlawful and must be stopped immediately.”

According to Iran Human Rights, this morning, two male prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions in Zahedan Central Prison. Their identities have been established as Sunni clerics Molavi Amanollah Baluchi and Hafez Abdolrahim Kouhi. They were arrested in November 2015 and sentenced to death and ten years imprisonment on security charges by the Zahedan Revolutionary Court in September 2019.
At the time of writing, it is not clear exactly which charges in their case led to their death sentence.
Speaking to IHR, an informed source said: “The executions of the two Sunni clerics have been delayed until Thursday. Their case has turned into a hostage-taking situation, they have been told that in order to stop their executions and reduce their sentences, they must bring in the other three people in their case who have since fled Iran.”
According to Kalameh TV which first reported the news, Molavi Amanollah Baluchi and Hafez Abdolrahim Kouhi have never accepted the charges against them and have stated that they were tortured to force false confessions from them.
Despite documents evidencing that they are indeed graduates of the Manba-Al-Oloum Kouh Van Seminary being made available and online, Ali Movahedi-Rad, the Zahedan Public Prosecutor and Revolutionary Court Prosecutor has claimed there are no documents supporting their claim of being clerics.
At least five people have been executed in Zahedan Central Prison since the beginning of 2021.Share this
