In A Letter Zarif Warns Of U.S. Intentions For A ‘Direct Confrontation’ With Iran

Radiofarda – The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has sent a letter to his counterparts around the world warning against U.S. intentions to directly confront Iran.

Arguing that Washington’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization”, is “supported and triggered by some ideological elements within the current US administration”, Zarif says that the move will leave no peaceful way out of tensions except “direct confrontation”.

President Donald Trump, after years of deliberations by U.S. administrations, announced April 8 its decision to blacklist Iran’s Guards. Iranian leaders have been reacting bitterly about the U.S. since the decision was made public.

The U.S. insists that Iran must give up its “malign behavior” and interference in the affairs of regional countries.

Zarif also claims in his letter that Washington’s latest move is meant to prepare U.S. public opinion for “a new adventure” in the region.

Zarif concludes his letter by saying, “the Islamic Republic of Iran has strongly condemned the US illegal and provocative measures and warned against their short-term and long-term consequences”.
