Radiofarda – U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on December 10 called attention to “innocent Americans held hostage” by Iran and demanded their release.
Monday, December 10 was Human Rights Day and Pompeo referring to the international rights day asks to “spare a moment” to remember the detainees and particularly Robert Levinson who disappeared in Iran in March 2007.
Robert (Bob) Levinson, a former FBI agent, disappeared eleven years ago while visiting Kish Island, southern Iran. There are unconfirmed reports saying that he has died while in custody. Nevertheless, there are also reports that he is still alive and kept somewhere in eastern Iran, near Afghanistan border.
Pompeo’s tweet also contains a video update about Levinson and other U.S. citizens held by Iran.

Iran has a long record of either directly holding American hostages or supporting extremist groups who kidnapped Americans and other Westerners in the 1980s in Lebanon.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has a $5 million reward for information that could lead to Levinson’s safe return and it has set up a website with information about him.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly maintained it has no information about Levinson.
Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) called the Islamic Republic regime’s “continued denial of his whereabouts— farcical.” Levinsons live in Florida.
