Shabtabnews – According to HRANA news agency 202 Gonabadi Sufis are sentenced to jail and flogging.
The most severe of these sentences (after the execution of Mohammad Salas) is the sentence of 26 years imprisonment and 148 lashes.
In addition to imprisonment and flogging, many Gonabadi Sufus have also been sentenced to exile, and deprivation of their social rights, and are prohibited from leaving the country.
In a clash between Gonabadi Sufis and security forces in February, about 500 Dervishes were arrested on Pasdaran Street. The Gonabadi Sufis were at the time protesting the house arrest of their spiritual leader Dr Noor Ali Tabandeh, when they were set on by security forces and were brutally beaten before being arrested.
