Al-Arabia – The US State Department said on Tuesday it was following reports of nationwide strikes in Iran.
In a Twitter statement, spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the US “supports the right of the Iranian people to peacefully express their rightful demands.”
She added: “These strikes have a message for the regime: stop wasting Iran’s wealth abroad and start addressing the needs of your own people.”
Iranian teachers went on strike October 14 and 15, holding sit-ins at elementary and high schools across the country to protest “unfair wages,” “degradation of education quality,” “inflation,” and “the continuation of the arrest of [teachers rights] activists.”
The two-day strike was called by the Coordinating Council of Teachers Union.
