Play on Persian poet Sadi to go on stage in Vancouver, Canada

PayvandNews – “Sadi – A Traveler From the Town of Love,” A play on Persian poet Sadi (C. 1213-1291), famous worldwide for his masterpieces Bustan (The Orchard) and Gulistan (The Rose Garden), will go on stage the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver, Canada on September 22.

Ali-Naqi Razzaqi is the writer of the play, which will be performed by the Blue Light Theater Group, a public relations team announced on Sunday.

The play will star Ali Omrani and a cast of nine other actors, including Majid Tafreshi, Mahbubeh Mojtahed, and Elnaz Rezai,

“The troupe intends to attract the attention of Iranian expatriates in Canada to our native cultural backgrounds and art heritage,” director Zhubin Ghaziani said.

“It will be really inspiring if watching the play pushes them to refer to Sadi’s Bustan and Gulistan following their departure from the theater,” he added.

“The hardship of living in a new country causes Iranian expatriates to distance themselves from their native culture and art,” he lamented.

Katayun Feiz will use Persian paintings by Farah Osuli to design the set of the play, which will be produced by Parvin Sarabadi.

Abu-Muhammad Muslih al-Din bin Abdallah Shirazi better known by his pen-name Saadi and also known as Saadi of Shiraz was a major Persian poet of the medieval period. He is recognized for the quality of his writing and for the depth of his social and moral thinking.
