Protesting Prisoners of Rajai Shahr Prison Threatened by Prison Guards

HRANA News Agency – After three weeks of constant protest of the political prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj by refusing to receive food rations, on January 16, 2018, the prison guards went to the hall and claimed that they had intervened at the behest of the head of the Prisons Organization of Tehran Province to end the protest. The forces following inspection and creating fear and panic, threatened that the political prisoners would be exiled to dangerous and violent wards, if they would continue the protest.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), 22 days after the beginning of the protest of the political prisoners in the Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj by refusing to receive food rations, there is still no change in the conditions of this place despite the promises of the prosecutor’s representative to improve the situation.

On Tuesday, January 16, 2018, the special forces guards entered the ward at 9 pm, took a number of political prisoners out of ward, and held them for more than three hours outside the ward in a closed room.

In response to the protesting prisoners, prison guard forces announced that that unconventional visit had been done at the behest of Mustafa Mohebbi, director general of the Tehran prison, to end the protests in this ward.

Prisoners, who were held inside the room by Special Forces, were threatened to end their protest. Prison guards responded to prisoner who opposed them: “political prisoners will be exiled to dangerous and violent wards, if they continue the protest.” They also explicitly stated: “you should expect any ordinary incident, including beatings and stabbing by ordinary prisoners.”

The protest of the political prisoners in response to the terrible situation of the ward also includes applications for using the phone, having the suitable air conditioning, repairing the heating equipment of the hall, having a newspaper, using the library and gym, as well as getting back their personal belongings and property which is estimated to worth 3800 million IRR.
