Sunni Prisoners Under Ongoing Pressure In Rajaie Shahr Prison

Iran-HRM – Sunni prisoners, who are mostly sentenced to prison for non-violent activities and are detained in Rajaie Shahr Prison in Karaj, are deprived of their basic rights such as being taken to hospital, meeting with their extended family members including their nephews and nieces and receiving medicine, blankets and clothes from their families. Despite the aggravation of their problems, prison authorities have neglected them.

The prisoners, who have been brought to Rajaie Shahr from all over Iran, are mistreated and discriminated against when meeting with their family. The body searches of their families, sometimes accompanied by violence and verbal abuse, frightens the children. The prisoners’ letters of protest have not led to any conclusions as yet.
