Afshin Baymany Deprived of Medical Treatment

Afshin BaymanyHRANA News Agency – Afshin Baymany, political prisoner in Rajai Shahr prison who suffers from heart disease and is at the risk of a heart attack, has deliberately been deprived of medical services by judicial and security authorities.


According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Afshin Baymany, political prisoner at Rajai Shahr prison who suffers from heart disease has deliberately been deprived of medical services by judicial and security authorities in the seventeenth year of his imprisonment.

A close source to Afshin Baymany by announcing the news explained to HRANA’s reporter about “the deliberate” denial of medical care by the prison and judicial security: “It was supposed that the prison authorities would send Mr. Baymany to the hospital due to heart surgery. Dr. Karimi told that Tehran prosecutor had not accepted it because the agreement of the Ministry of Intelligence was needed.”

The source added: “A few letters based on the specialized doctor’s opinions who said that the heart condition of Mr. Baymany was inappropriate, were sent to the Ministry of Intelligence.”

HRANA previously had reported that the political prisoner who suffered from heart failure had been denied the medical leave or medical treatment in a hospital out of prison.

The long term imprisonment of Afshin Baymany who is married and is father of two children in addition to physical problems such as heart disease and kidney stones, also has created serious problems for his family.

Afshin Baiymany, political prisoner in hall 12 of Rajai Shahr prison was arrested on September 5, 2000 and sentenced to death on charge of helping his brother to flee. His brother, Mehdi Baymany, was associated with the People’s Mujahedin of Iran and the sentence was confirmed on the appeal court. His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment after 6 years.
