Christian Convert in Iran Detained for 19 Days, Charges Unclear

Iranwire – Farrokh Kakai, a 54-year-old Christian convert from Kermanshah and resident of Karaj, has been in custody for 19 days since his arrest by Iranian intelligence forces on May 26.

According to a report from the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kakai, a father of two, was apprehended at his home in Karaj by intelligence agents.

During the arrest, authorities reportedly searched his residence and confiscated personal belongings, including his phone and computer.

In the limited contact Kakai has had with his family since being detained—two brief phone calls—he indicated that he is unaware of his current location.

Kakai’s continued detention comes amid an ongoing crackdown on religious minorities in Iran, including Christian converts from Muslim backgrounds.

Advocacy groups have raised concerns over the due process rights and treatment of such detainees.

Iranian authorities have not provided any public information about the charges or accusations against Kakai related to his arrest and imprisonment.
